ESL Institutes


ESL institute provide intensive preparation for preservice and in-service teachers to secure their ESL certification. Participants are engaged in active and collaborative learning. They review the fundamentals of ESL education, first and second language acquisition, ESL methodologies, literacy development across the content areas, assessment, and family and community involvement.

The goal of the ESL institutes is to provide teachers with the knowledge skills and tools, to plan and deliver lessons that integrate English language development, literacy development and content area instruction. In doing so, English language learners have access to a full curriculum. Through this institute, Project LEAD is building teacher capacity to better academically serve and prepare English Language Learners for a better future. With close to 5 million English language learners in our nation’s schools today, high quality educational practices and resources are necessary to ensure ELLs equitable and excellent education.
